9" EPDM Aeration Disc
· 3/4 inch threaded male bottom fitting
· EPDM rubber diffuser
· Black - less visible
· Built-in check valve
· Ask for our domed bottom drain (BD) DYI instructions to mount
this disc to your BD

|
|
Use the Hakko 80 liter air pump
to operate two 9" EPDM aeration discs at 6 feet
TIP: When locating the
air pumps, keep them above the water level to prevent water from
back flowing, even if the diffusers have check valves...
TIP: Installing a
spring loaded check valve on the air line will greatly reduce the
air flow and possibly cause undue wear on the air pump. Not recommended!

Aeration manifold using
PVC 1/2" threaded T's, threaded nipple fittings to connect them
and a barbed fitting to connect to an air line. (Air
line above is 1/2 inch inside diameter. A 1/2" barbed fitting
will work) Assemble PVC parts
that are available at your local hardware store. Then thread in the
air stones, connect the barbed fitting to the air line and the other
end of the air line to an air pump that are all available and listed
above. (You could use either
the 3 or 6 inch long air stones depending on how much pump you are
using)

Air Stone guide lines:
Use 1 - 6" stone for every 20L of
aeration
Or
Use 2 - 3" stones for every 20L of
aeration
40L pump
- (2) 6 inch stones down to 6 feet
40L pump - (4) 3 inch stones down to 6 feet
60L pump - (3) 6 inch stones down to 6 feet
60L pump - (6) 3 inch stones down to 6 feet
Note: Try to keep distances
to all aeration
stones equal distances. If one is closer to the
source or higher, it will get most of the air.

BUILD YOUR OWN AERATION BOTTOM DRAIN INTAKE;
The advantage to mounting aeration over a bottom intake is that the
crud on the ponds bottom will be drawn towards it. Notice the blue
lines indicating the current created by the rising air bubbles. The
rising air bubbles draw water towards the top that will return down
the sides and across the bottom.

How To build; Into a 1/2" threaded PVC "T", install the (2)
6" Aeration stones using nylon tape on the threads. A barbed fitting is threaded
into the third opening of the PVC "T" (Also with nylon tape on
the threads.)
Drill small
1/8 inch holes in the 1 1/2" black ABS "T" for (4)
black ZIP ties. (Enlarge the Right most image for
more detail on holes) The ZIP ties are used to anchor the 1/2" PVC
Aeration "T". Another ZIP tie can be used to hold the
black air line to the extender pipe. Bottom Intake holes are 3/4" every 2
inches on the two 12" ABS 1 1/2" pipes w/ capped ends. (Enlarge

An idea for transporting Koi fish
|
Transported
39 Koi using a battery operated air pump.
Transported 39
baby Koi in a 30 gallon trash can lined with a new black plastic
trash bag using a battery operated air pump and no bio-filter.
We traveled
3 days in an RV with the trash can in the shower stall. To help
keep some good bacteria, we used the original pond water and
covered the water surface with water hyacinth plants. We did do a couple
of 20% water changes during the trip to help keep the ammonia
levels down and all 39 lived. We traveled 1400 miles this way.
(Fish ranged in sizes 2" - 7" and were not fed for
three days prior to and during transport.) ~ Bill P.
